Total Length of Great Wall

According to historical records, the construction of the Great Wall boasts more than 5000 kilometers and started during the two dynasties: one is the section built by king of Qin Shi Huang starting from the west of Lintao, east to the Liaodong; the other is the section located at Hexi Corridor built in West Han dynasty, ending at Liaodong, with a total of over 10000 miles. These sites housing the Great Wall of China today are located in Beijing, Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Xinjiang, Tianjin, Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Hubei, Hunan and Shandong and other 10 provinces, cities and autonomous regions.

Due to the time, the Great Wall from different dynasties is not very complete, the relatively complete is the Ming Dynasty Great Wall, so people usually refer to the Great Wall as the Great Wall of Ming Dynasty. Meanwhile, the length of the Great Wall is the length of the Ming Great Wall, starting from west of Jiayuguan, east to the banks of the Yalu river. On April 18, 2009, the State Administration of cultural heritage and the National Mapping Bureau jointly announced the Great Wall east of Liaoning Tiger Hill, West to Gansu Jiayuguan, from east to west through Liaoning, Hebei, Tianjin, Beijing, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Ningxia, Gansu, Qinghai, about ten provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities) and 156 counties, with the total 8851.8 kilometers in length. And it passes through the ditch 359.7 kilometers, the natural barrier 2232.5 kilometers.

On June 5, 2012, State Bureau of cultural relics at the Great Wall of Juyongguan announced that, after nearly 5 years of investigations, Chinese Great Wall boasts a total length of 21196.18 kilometers, located in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Shandong, Henan, Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai and other 15 provinces and autonomous regions. The Great Wall walls, trenches, single building, Guan Bao and related facilities with a total number of 43721 items. This is the first scientific and systematically gauge to measure the total length of the Great Wall. In 2009 the State Cultural Relics Bureau published the first Great Wall survey data: the Great Wall has a total length of 8851.8 km. The investigation into the Great Wall shows, not only the Great Wall of Ming Dynasty was measured, the experts also carried out a survey of the Great Wall built during Qin and Han Dynasties and other times.
