Overview about Beijing Taxi
Beijing currently has 66,646 taxis in operation for about 700 million trips in a city. Taxis are plentiful, clean and cheap in Beijing. Taxis in Beijing mainly are Xiali and Fukang taxis. Fares are charged according to the running kilometers. Cars come in a variety of models and colors (most commonly green, brown or blue). There are also some illegal taxis (commonly known as "black car") running in and around Beijing.

Beijing Taxi Charges
Every Beijing taxis are metered. Beijing taxi charges are separated in to two types, day time and mid-night. On the day time (5:00am - 23:00pm), the base fare of Beijing taxi start 13 RMB for the first 3 kilometers and per each additional kilometer will cost 2.3 RMB after 3 kilometers. In other hand, for a trip after 15 kilometers, per each additional kilometer will costs 3.45 RMB.

On the mid-night (11:00 pm – 05:00am), the base fare of Beijing taxi start 14.4 RMB for the first 3 kilometers and per each additional kilometer will cost 2.76 RMB after 3 kilometers. In other hand, for a trip after 15 kilometers, per each additional kilometer will costs 4.14 RMB.

Important Notes
Be warned however that almost none of the drivers speak or reads English so make sure you always have your destination written out in Chinese characters. You may ask your hotel desk staff then they will be happy to assist and some even provide handy flashcards for the major tourist attractions and restaurants. After you get your destinations in Chinese then you can show it to the taxi driver. Tipping isn't necessary. In additional, one taxi in Beijing allowed carry 4 people in total, no more than that.

Customers also could see taxi driver registration number on the dashboard on the passenger side. Every official taxi drivers should have their license prominently displayed in the front of the cab facing the front passenger seat. We suggest you to find another taxi if your taxi has no license displayed.
