Yangshuo

"The landscapes of Guilin rank first in the world, but Yangshuo's top of Guilin." Yangshuo known as the most charming scenery of China is a small county located 66km down southeast from Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The county borders the Li River on one side, and is situated on a small plain between numbers of karst peaks, it is easily accessible by bus or by boat from nearby Guilin. It covers an area of 1,428 square kilometers with a population of 300,000.

The karst topography endowed the Yangshuo with breath-taking sceneries, while its history of over 1,400 years enriches it with a sense of traditional culture. Diverse ethnic groups with special folk life inhabit the town. Numerous foreigners are fascinated by its scenery, leisure atmosphere and ethnic folk culture, and many of them have become residents of the town.

Once a sleepy little town, Yangshuo today has grown up, claiming its own identity as a tiny global village with a bohemian atmosphere, gorgeous natural scenery, exciting outdoor activities, great food, and rowdy nightlife, which naturally attracts more and more like-minded people. Yangshuo has become world renowned for its rock-climbing scene, the national rock climbing festival is held here annually. Most climbing routes are on easily accessible peaks close to the road and usually within a short bike ride from town. Climbing clubs around west street are all run by China's rock-climbing pioneers.

The major tourist attractions in Yangshuo include West Street (Xi Jie), Moon Hill, Ancient Banyan Tree, Yulong River (Bamboo Rafting), Fuli town, Xingping (a fishing village).

West Street in Yangshuo

Yangshuo West Street has been nicknamed Foreigners Street, has a history of more than 1,400 years. It is 517 meters long and 8 meters wide, meandering in an 'S'-shaped. Being completely paved with marble, it is a typical example of a southern China street.  Various folk- custom stores, craftworks shops, painting and calligraphy stores, backpack shops, cafes, and Chinese Kung Fu academies jostle for attention. West Street does not only provide visual satisfaction but tourists but also there are foods from all over the world; ciba (a kind of Chinese rice cake) and rice noodle of Yangshuo, authentic Italian coffee, banana cake, Western style food, etc.

Yangshuo Moon Mountain

Moon Cave is named for it's giant archway (about 50 metres,980steps). It is a famous sight in Yangshuo.

Yangshuo Big Banyan Tree

The 1,400 year-old ban yan tree is a symbol of longevity and is also seen as the symbol of eternal love. It is located 7.5km south of Yangshuo, is one of the main scenic attractions of Yangshuo county. It is said that the banyan was planted in the Jin Dynasty(1115-1234) and is famous for its age and towering beauty. The banyan tree is now 17 meters high, 7.1 meters around the trunk, and covers an area of 1000 square meters. The butterfly spring park is only a few minutes' bike ride from the ban yan tree park. It is the biggest butterfly farming and research center in China. During summer months, more than 70,000 butterflies of various kinds play out short- lived yet passionate love dramas here every day. China's own Romeo and Juliet story, "The Butterfly couple of Liangzhu", is inspired by these creatures butterflies that live no more than a month.

Xingping

Xingping is an ancient town with a history of more than 1300 years. It is also an area where the best scenic sights along the Li River are to be found. There are such enchanting scenes as "Pretty Woman Looking in the Mirror", "General Drawing His Sword" and "Carp Drinking from the River".
