Jade Dragon Snow Mountain

Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is ten miles from Lijiang. The mountain locates between 10004'-10016'east longitude and 2703'-2740' north latitude, looking like a gigantic dragon clad in white snow all year round. And it is the southernmost glacier in the Northern Hemisphere. The Jade Dragon Snow Mountain

Jade Dragon Snow Mountain contains 13 peaks with the Shanzidou being the highest one with an altitude of 5,600 meters (18,360 feet). Access to the mountain is offered by a cable lift to Dragon Spruce Meadow, halfway to the glacier peak. The scenic area integrates subtropical, temperate and frigid natural sights, and its main tourist attractions include Spruce Terrace, Baishui River, Ganhaizi and Ice Pagoda Forest.

Yunnan Province originates about half of China's plant species, to half of which Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is the home, including trees, flowers, and medicinal herbs and plants. Many ravines, creeks, cliffs, and meadows of the mountain all have Naxi names and offer settings for the myths and legends of the people who have made the plain their homeland for 1,000 years.

Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is still densely forestly bursting into bloom every spring with camellias, rhododendrons, and azaleas. Herders take their cattle, goats, sheep, and yaks to graze on its slopes. In autumn, some of the pine trees turn amber yellow, while the deciduous trees transmute their green leaves into patches of bright yellow, orange, and scarlet.
