Dali

Dali is the capital city of the prefecture of the same name. It consists of Dali New City and Dali Old Town. Also Dali is the cultural cradle of the southwestern China frontier, as it was the capital of Nanzhao State in the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907) and Dali State in the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279), which left many historic sites like the Three Pagodas.

With the beautiful Cangshan Mountains a short distance to the west of Dali Old Town (4,200 metres at the peak) and Erhai Lake a few km to the east, it has a perfect natural setting. The climate of Dali is temperate with moderate summers and mild winters, though it can get rather windy in autumn and winter. Two ancient city gates and parts of an ancient walls still stand and three ancient pagodas grace a hill overlooking the city. Dali has been the location for many famous Chinese films, including Five Golden Flowers. View of Dali
