Itinerary of: 17 Days Silk Road Adventure & Yangtze River Cruise Tour

Day 1
Arrival in Beijing

Our guide will meet you after you pass the baggage claim area at Beijing Airport and transfer you to the hotel. The rest of the day is on your own to explore the city.

Day 2
Beijing (B, L, D)
Tiananmen Square

Pick you up from your hotel and visit Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven. A Beijing Duck Dinner will be served at a famous restaurant, followed by a lively Peking Opera performance at the Liyuan Theatre.
- Tiananmen Square: the largest public square in the world. It is 880 meters from north to south, and 500 meters from east to west, with a total area of 440,000 square meters and can hold one million people.
- Forbidden City: the largest ancient imperial palaces where 24 emperors, 14 of the Ming and 10 of the Qing, ruled the country from here over a span of nearly 500 years.
- Temple of Heaven: The temple was the place where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties worshipped heaven and prayed for good harvests.

Day 3
Beijing (B, L)
Badaling Great Wall

Pick you up from your hotel and visit the Badaling Great Wall. To avoid having lunch at shopping site restaurants, you will be driven to have Sichuan food at a local popular restaurant. Visit the Sacred Way, the Ming Tomb, the Bird's Nest (Olympic National Stadium), You will see its appearance at a distance.
- Badaling Great Wall: As its name implies it gives access to every direction. With an elevation of 600 meters it is the most famous and best-preserved section of the Great Wall.
- Ming Tombs: it is the largest clusters of imperial cemeteries in China. They are mausoleums of thirteen emperors of the Ming Dynasty.
- Sacred Road: Which means the road leading to heaven is lined with 18 pairs of stone human figures and animals, they are important decorations of the mausoleum.

Day 4
Beijing - Urumqi (B, L)
Summer Palace

Pick you up from your hotel and visit the Summer Palace. Then take a flight to Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and transfer to the hotel.
- Summer Palace: the largest and best preserved imperial garden of the Qing Dynasty extant in Beijing, as well as a famous classical imperial garden.

Day 5
Urumqi - Kashgar (B)
Kashgar Sunday Market

You will take a morning flight to Kashgar - "the pearl on the Ancient Silk Road". Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the local best hotel. Visit the famous Sunday Market.

Day 6
Kashgar - Urumqi - Turpan (B)

Visit the Id Kah Mosque, the Old Street and the Abakh Khoja Tomb. Take a flight to Urumqi and transfer to Turpan. Check in at the hotel.

Day 7
Turpan (B)
Sugong Pagoda

Pick you up from your hotel and visit the Jiaohe Ruins, the Karez Well and the Sugong Pagoda.
- Jiaohe Ruins: Jiaohe means twisting rivers in Chinese, it is surrounded by sheer cliffs and it is the best preserved town ruin in China.
- Karez Well: is a kind of underground water works invented and built by laboring people of various ethnic groups in China to adapt to the natural environment in dry region.
- Sugong Pagoda: is the largest extant old tower in Xinjiang; it is the only Islamic tower among the hundred famous towers in China.

Day 8
Turpan - Dunhuang (B)
Gaochang Ruins

Pick you up from your hotel and visit the Gaochang Ruins, the Baizikeli Thousand Buddha Cave and the Flaming Hill. Take an overnight soft sleeper train to Dunhuang.
- Gaochang Ruins: used to be a key point along the Silk Road, Gaochang ancient city was now one of the best-preserved ruins of the ancient cities in China.
- Baizikeli Thousand Buddha Cave: stand high on the cliffs of west Mutou Valley , 45 km (28miles) east of Turpan. The Caves had been the Buddhist center of Gaochang.
- Flaming Hill: is a small mountain running across the basin. the mountain is a combination of red sand and rocks, looking at the mountain from the distance in the sunsight, the heat waves and the floating clouds will make the mountain appear as though it is on fire.

Day 9
Dunhuang
Mogao Grottoes

Pick you up at the train station and transfer to the hotel. Visit the Mogao Grottoes and the Dunhuang Museum. Breakfast is on your side.
- Mogao Grottoes: Mogao means high up in the desert. The Mogao Caves are the best known of the Chinese Buddhist grottoes and, along with Longmen Grottoes and Yungang Grottoes, are one of the three famous ancient sculptural sites of China.

Day 10
Dunhuang - Xian (B, L)
Crescent Spring

You will experience a short camel-ride along the Echoing-Sand Dune to reach the Crescent Spring. Take a flight to Xian and transfer to the hotel.
- Echoing-Sand Dune: The Dune is five kilometers (about three miles) away from the city of Dunhuang. Seen from afar, the mountain is just like a golden dragon winding its way over the horizon.
- Crescent Spring: is a natural wonder shape like a crescent in the desert. It enjoys the title of "The Wonders of the Gobi Desert."

Day 11
Xian (B, L)
Terracotta Warriors

Pick you up from your hotel and visit the Terra Cottrsa Warrio. To avoid having the poor food at the site, you will take highway back to downtown to have lunch at a well-known Cantonese cuisine restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the Ancient City Wall. This evening you will be entertained with the marvelous Tang Dynasty Show. Transfer back to your hotel.
- Terra Cotta Warriors: It is a part of the tomb complex of Qin emperor, the Terra Cotta Warriors is the greatest findings in the archeology world.
- Big Wild Goose Pagoda: the symbol of the long history of Xian, and a well-preserved ancient building and holy worshipping shrine for Buddhists.
- Ancient City Wall: the most complete city wall survived in China as well as one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world.
- Tang Dynasty Show: a wonderful performance of the ancient music and dance, is a must when you visit Xian.

Day 12
Xian - Chongqing (B, L, D)
Great Mosque

Pick you up from your hotel and visit the Great Mosque and a local family in the morning. After lunch at a local famous restaurant, take a flight to Chongqing. Have a rich buffet dinner at the Hotel and check in at the cruise ship.
- Great Mosque: is one of the oldest and best preserved as well as most renowned mosques in the country. It is northwest of the Drum Tower on 30 Huajue Lane.

Day 13
Yangtze River (B, L, D)
Fengdu Ghost City

The cruise starts at 9:00. Excursion to Fengdu (Ghost city), a must-shore excursion site on the Yangtze cruise.
- Fengdu (Ghost city): Fengdu is the only ghost city in China. The temples are all over the mountain with many statues.

Day 14
Yangtze River (B, L, D )
Qutang Gorge

The essential part of the Yangtze River cruise is coming today. You will appreciate the unique scenery of the Three Gorges: Qutang Gorge, Wu Gorge, Shennong Stream and Xiling Gorge.
- Qutang Gorge: it is the first of the three gorges of the Yangtze River and it is famous for its sheer and spectacular precipices.
- Wu Gorge: Wu Gorge is the second gorge of the Three Gorges system in Yangtze River and gifted with exquisite peaks and lush mountains and ranges.
- Shennong Stream: is one of the most important ports of call for Yangtze Three Gorges tour. It is a 60-kilometer tributary of the Yangtze River
- Xiling Gorge: it is the largest and furthest downstream of the Three Gorges.

Day 15
Yichang - Shanghai by air (B, L)
Three Gorges Dam

Disembark for an excursion to the under constructed Three Gorges Dam. Pack your luggage and follow the check-out procedures. After having lunch at Yichang city, visit Yichang Museum if time allows. Head for Shanghai by flight and your local professional tour guide will expect you with comfortable transfer service. Check in at the well selected hotel.
- Three Gorges Dam: located in the Yiling District of Yichang, in Hubei province, China. It is a hydroelectric dam that spans the Yangtze River by the town of Sandouping. It is the largest electricity-generating in the world.

Day 16
Shanghai (B, L)
Yu Garden

Pick you up from your hotel and visit the Shanghai Museum and the Yuyuan Garden. After lunch, transfer you to the Bund area, where you will take a cruise tour on the Huangpu River. The cruise will start at 14:00, reach the Wusongkou pier and then get back to the Bund at 17:00. Leave you some free time to explore the Bund area on your own. After the tour, transfer back to your hotel.
- Shanghai Museum: ranked as the best museum of China.
- Yuyuan Garden: is considered one of the most lavish and finest Chinese gardens in the region.
- The Bund: the picturesque bund with tall building of various tower over the river, looking as a museum of modern world architecture.
- Huangpu River: one of the most important rivers in Shanghai, like an undulating dragon from Wusong to the East Sea.
