My Great Wall Hiking in Winter - (2)

Got up in early morning, I found the air and environment are all very good in suburbs of Beijing. I cannot stop to breathe the fresh even sweat air, just like a people need oxygen badly. How long time I have no chance to get up in such quiet morning.

Broad View at Jinshanling Great Wall

After breakfast in hotel, I continued to enjoy the Great Wall at Jinshanling and Simatai. It is said that the Jinshanling Great Wall is connected with Simatai Great Wall, so the guide told me we would start from Jinshanling and end at Simatai. It was an arduous work. In fact, I have used to long distance hiking, but to my surprise, the guide have full energy to climb it with me and explained me the history and culture of this section of the Great Wall. Without cable car or other facilities, I just experienced it by foot and hands. Not as well as the Great Wall at Mutianyu, the Jinshanling part is incomplete in some parts during the hundreds of years, but it is the real appearance of the Great Wall. Standing on it, I seemed to feel the wars it had experienced, shining spears and armoured horses, which can describe its real scene. Using its strong and powerful body, the Great Wall withstood the attack again and protected the safety of Beijing and people in Beijing city.

From Jinshanling to Simatai, almost 12 kilometers, we hiked it for about 5 hours. Even tired enough, I like this Great Wall tour very much and recorded in my mind. Totally 30 towers, I really recognized the strength of Chinese people. We just hike it, but the people built it hand by hand. It is hard to image what they experienced in that time. Maybe the word of tire is not enough to describe the situation of them. It is a shock tour I thought.

Jinshanling Great Wall Hiking - Great Time

Having experienced several sections of the Great Wall like Badaling, Mutianyu and Jiayuguan section, I always have a wish to visit the Jinshanling section. Chinese people have the noted saying acting on the dream. Surfed on the net, I booked a 1 day bus tour to Jinshanling Great Wall, offered by a Beijing China travel agency. This way saved much more time and troublesome.

With small group and English speaking tour guide, I was transferred to Jinshanling Great Wall, about 2.5~3 hours from Beijing. Arrived at Jinshanling, I found that was the destination I wanted. More remote and less crowded than Badaling, Jinshanling section is more fitful to explore in adventure. In more natural state, Jinshanling told the most original story about the Great Wall. Conditions are rougher than other sections and it may be unsuited for persons prone to vertigo, because of the unguarded walls.

Jinshanlilng Great Wall in Sunshine

Not maintained as well as Badaling and Mutianyu, here is the ideal section to see the real Great Wall for me. This section is most suited for hiking, to enjoy the surroundings and beautiful scenery without many manmade traces. Of course, you can also take cable car to the top, and the price is less than others. Hiking the Great Wall gave me great chance to forget the problems and things in daily life. Breathe the fresh air, hug the nature, I was addicted into its charming. Not any quiet more, just stay at this moment. The process is little tired, but the feeling of spray sweet is the best for me. Stood on the top, felt like I'm on TOP of The World. I told myself I conquered this Great Wall. Moment, the success covered nonconfidence in your work, friends or love. The vast ever-going Great Wall makes one wonders how they built it in those days.

Give yourself a chance to recover confidence, Jinshanling is ideal place. Old wall and tower tell the story of defending and protecting. Walking through these stops in Jinshanling section, I seemed back to the wars in ancient time to witness these wars in ancient China.

Have not given full expression to this view, I was sent back to hotel. Although short time, I spend my power on it but well worth it. Great place!

Summer Vacation on Mutianyu Great Wall

Without visiting the Great Wall is as if you were not visit China. Tours usually get to go to the Badaling section of the Great Wall and they even take you to the Ming Tombs on the way so kind of understand the package deal people take. However we prefer to the private tour to Mutianyu Great Wall far away from the downtown with less tourists. Yes, we made a right choice. Here we did not see any groups of tourists organized by the travel agencies. Though nearly 3 hours driving, it worthwhile!

Cable Car on Mutianyu

We took the cable car to the Great Wall and started out at around watchtower 14 and our goal was to get to the tower 1, as these Watchtowers are high up the mountain that will give us the best view.  We walked and walked and walked, amazed by the scenery. We made tons of jokes, and took some fun pictures as well. Tons and tons and tons of steep steps to climb… what a challenge! Breathing extremely hard, in and out, I almost didn't make it to the terminal. Getting up from Tower 2 to 1 in 1 shot with no break was a huge accomplishment in my eyes, as I really had to push myself. By the time we got to Tower 2, I was really struggling and completely cursing my skinny little legs! We had to stop every 10 steps to catch our breath, but we eventually made it up. We had to physically crawl up the final 10 steps which were huge and almost vertical. It was comforting seeing the other people around us struggling as much! Standing on the top of Tower 1, we took in the amazing 360 degree view, caught our breath and patted ourselves on the backs for making it. This had been a dream of mine for several years...and I had made it come true now. So inspired to live my best life I cannot really convey the excellent feelings accurately in words. Only my heart knew, glowed warmly within me. I tried to be in the moment as much as I could...just living now and savoring the excellent experience.

Grand View on Mutianyu

You can imagine smiles at our faces as we walked the 3 km up and down the wall, admiring views on the way and generally enjoying this masterpiece of defense architecture. We aimed to stay till the sun set to get the real feel of it.
