GREAT Wall Experience

We made an early start the day we headed out to walk the Great Wall with our guide. We met at our hotel and hit the road on a ride for Mutianyu. It took more than an hour to get to the foothill of Mutianyu Great Wall - our starting point for our walk of the Great Wall.

Mutianyu Great Wall

Once we were landed on the wall, we started our walk together. The weather was hot and the walk quite good at the beginning yet got tricky later. After walking for 10km on the stone-paved path, we were both really tired and my ankles hurt too! However, the views we got from the wall made it all worth the climbs. The wall has been well renovated yet there were still some parts of the wall dangerously built on steep hills! There were very steep up and down parts on the wall with nothing to hold onto. At one point, we run into a hawker who tried to sell us some postcards and t-shirts, but we rejected him friendly. He seemed to accept our rejection quite happily but then silently followed us. Kind of creepy as we were both not too sure what was on his mind! Very strange indeed! Maybe he was not that easy to give up!

Later he stopped following us around at that point - it seemed he figured out he was in no hope of trying to close a deal with us! Afterwards we continued our walk on the wall at a gentle pace, stopping at every tower to catch some breath and get some rest from the walk. It took us about a few hours to complete our walk on the wall. At some point, we were the only hikers to be seen on the wall, which made it even more incredible. Though the walk almost sucked the energy out of us we enjoyed the adventure and the views were rewarding. At the end of the walk, we headed down the wall on a toboggan ride, which made our wall experience even more fun. Later we had a lunch at a nearby restaurant and then were on our ride back to town. We were thankful when we arrived safely back at downtown hotel.

Overall, that Great Wall experience was once-in-a-lifetime for both of us!

My 2 Days Jinshanling Excursion

We made our way to Beijing last week on a flight from Shanghai. Spent a couple days in the city proper exploring a bunch of historic sightseeing, we both had a good time and fun over those days. Later we decided to explore outside Beijing to see the Great Wall at an off-the-beaten-road section called Jinshanling.

Jinshanling Great Wall

Being first time visitors to crumbling section of the wall, we booked the secret wall tour at the hotel. The next morning we made an early start in an attempt to beat the early morning Beijing traffic and get more time on the wall. The section of wall that we went to took us about 2.5 hours to get there. On our ride over there, our guide told us that parts of it were restored and some parts were not. We started the walk at about 10:30am and after 2 hours of hiking straight up (the hike was more like climbs) we made it to the final tower in that section of wall. Both of us got really tired and sweaty in such hot weather. But it was totally worth it as we were treated to quite a sight over there. It was clear, sunny day and the views from the wall were just incredible. We were both glad we hired a guide for our hike over there because we would not have made it to the last section of the wall on our own!

On the way up we only came across a few backpackers so it was like we had the crumbling wall all to ourselves! While hiking along the path, we kept busy taking photos here and there - that was part of the fun of hiking to the Great Wall! As time went by, soon it was time to head back down... our legs almost gave way the whole way down. The walk at Jinshanling was once in a lifetime experience and looking back we got very, very lucky as we could stay overnight nearby for our next day hiking which turned out just as amazing!

Exciting Jinshanling Great Wall Hiking Tour

Staying in Beijing for three years, I visited Badaling Great Wall and Mutianyu Great Wall. These two buildings have best preserved appearance and charming sceneries, especially Mutianyu Great Wall. Since I liked Chinese ancient history and culture very much, so this time, I chose the wild section, Jinshanling!

Jinshanling Great Wall

I have heard that Jinshanling Great Wall is the most original building in the earlier time. But because of its far distance from Beijing center, I was failed to climb. Last Saturday, together with my friend, we left the most meaningful impression on it. Tour guide was very considerate and picked us up from the hotel and transferred to this fairy land. About three hours later, we arrived. At that time, I did not clearly see its whole appearance but the top and its peak. It is summer season when Jinshanling Great Wall showed a little sophisticated. After getting some tips, we started our journey. The road is soil full of wet earth and wild grasses. After several minutes, we got the step. If I described it as step, it is wrong. In fact, they are all the earth steps. What to my surprised is that this Great Wall has been destroyed much without completely walls and watchtowers. We took a lot of pictures with this mysterious attraction including its floor, ruined walls and the wild grasses as well as the charming sceneries far distance.

We climbed and talked with each other. The level of difficulty can be classed as "relaxing", even if certain paths are tricky. Appreciating the far distance, this elegant project presented tiny. But I could see clearly its dragon-style layout. It is truly a nice place to enjoy ancient Chinese culture. With original features and the wild appearance, Jinshanling Great Wall carved my mind deeply. After walking to the watchtower, we saw the ruined wall without roof. All my nerves became more inspired. We sit on the corner and enjoy the cool feeling the breeze brought from the back mountain, very ease and cozy. Sky is typical blue mixing with some white clouds. Although the summer is hot, we still felt very comfortable in Beijing suburb area. We walked far sharing our feelings and experiences on the journey. I did not know how far we walked. I only knew we stayed on this fairy attraction for four three hours.

I cherished the Jinshanling Great Wall experience very much. It brought me too much from body to the mind!
