Gubeikou Great Wall Hiking Trip

I booked a tour online before I flew over the Pacific Ocean to Beijing last week. After my tour guide showed up at my downtown hostel, we started out tour to Gubeikou, an off the beaten road section of the Great Wall. The hike over there was quite long and the paths were very difficult to handle. That section was well known as one of the wildest sections of the wall.

Gubeikou Great Wall

It took us about 3 hours to get there from the city proper. On the ride I also took my time to take in the early morning views of Beijing and lovely countryside and fields. The sky was overcast that day, but that did not stop me going on the excursion to Gubeikou. The reason why I opted for that section was because it was as isolated as it could be. Hardly any tourists out here and very very few hawkers bothering you along the way. Fortunately, the sun came out after we trekked on the wall for a while. That made me more excited for my hiking on the wild wall. Along the way, I kept my cameras busy shooting here and there. Great picture opportunities seemed all over the place.

Truth to be told, the hike was not easy as I thought. Even though the path was not all that high up, I had to catch my breath from time to time. There seemed to be so many steep sections over there, more ascending sections than descending ones. So I just took my time and did not rush to trek my way up. The wall snaking over the mountains for as far as the eyes could see. The watch towers were scattered all along the wall and kind of gave me some senses to estimate the length of the hike! The views were as spectacular as it could be! At many sections on the wall the path fell out, with some missing stones and some of them very steep.

Overall, I had a full day and fun with my hiking to Gubeikou. It was all about fun and adventure and I loved it!

Unexpected Jinshanling Great Wall Hiking

Last Saturday, together with my family, we explored the wild Jinshanling Great Wall. Although in hot summer, we did enjoy cozy environment and perfect holiday, much thanks to the tour service and tour guide. Booking this tour is the suggestion of my father, because he held much interest to this Great Wall section.

We felt very sorry that we were late on the departure day. Because of the breakfast, our tour guide and driver waited for us. Tour guide was a little girl with beautiful smile and graceful behaviors. She understood our exciting and told us more about this attraction. Traffic in Beijing downtown area is very heavy. Our driver is very smart and successfully got rid of this bad condition. We just enjoyed the perfect environment, air-conditioned car, clean seats and soft music. For the far distance, it spent about three hours. Sunlight is very strong on the day. However, we felt very cozy with the fresh sceneries and clean air. After steeping on the Great Wall, traditional tastes poured our mind and body. It is truly an elegant wild attraction sending out mysterious tastes. Standing on the ruined ground, I could smell the flavor of the soil. Most of the bricks disappeared and formed the soil feeding the plants surrounded.

Jinshanlling Great Wall

Hiking journey is easy than we expected. Walking on the wall, I felt I was walking in the ancient times. Perhaps, only you came here, you could arouse this kind of feeling. My mother and father liked this wall building very much. They took pictures the whole journey holding exciting and happy feeling. When we met the watchtower, surprising feeling is full of our minds. Ruined, original appearance without roof, it showed loneliness standing on the ground. Many grasses accompanied with it guarding the local area. Just here, we got our fully relaxed. Trees here are not blossoming with sophisticated appearance. Having an overview, scenery far distance showed so green and vigorous. The shape of this Great Wall building presented narrow and winding stretching to the mountains. It is just the Jinshanling Great Wall. It is a wild Great Wall, camping here is available. Turning back appreciating the far distance we have finished, strange proud feeling rushed my mind.

I felt very happy for this tour. Highly recommend Jinshanling Great Wall tour. It is truly a wonderful record for Chinese ancient times!

Walk all the Way in Beijing

Last week, I enjoyed a few days exploring the Great Wall at different sections outside Beijing. It was fun and really amazing to walk on the wall each of which held its own features. It was definitely an essential Chinese experience to me! Over those days, I was taken to a couple of sections of the wall, but personally I just liked the sections off the beaten path, like the Jinshanling and Simatai sections. At those off the beaten path fragments of the wall, it was filled with blood-pumping experiences and adventure. More importantly, the walk was just as incredible as it could be!

Jinshanling Great Wall

On the first day of my trip, my tour guide met me at the hotel and we hopped on a van for Badaling and Juyongguan sections. Those two sections were well restored and it was kind of easy to walk all the way up the wall, nothing particular except for the walk and the towers. On the second day, we headed for the section at Huanghuacheng. I got to say, the section was incredible and it got everything that I was looking for on my excursion. The lovely lakes, the crumbling wall remains as well as amazing farm houses – all gave me such a great time while exploring Huanghuacheng. All I got to do over there was to relax and enjoy the amazing outdoors as well as the fresh air. It was really great to walk on the wall at my own pace, and with no one else but me and my tour guide, I felt like the whole wall was all to myself. Walk on the wall was energy-consuming, but it was totally worth it all. I was rewarded by quite a sight while hiking the Huanghuacheng section. Incredible sights were at every bend of the path. I really enjoyed myself at Huanghuacheng, of course.

However, the highlight of my excursion was definitely the walk at Jinshanling and Simatai sections. It was all about adventure and fun while exploring the crumbling sections of the wall. Being off the beaten path and all, the wall was kind of wilder and almost left to nature, making it hard to walk over, yet the views were just breathtaking and incredible. After my walk at those sections, I felt like there is truly nothing else in the world that could get me down. The walk was a test of my courage and confidence and l had learned so much about the wall as well. Overall, great days and great memories!
