Walk All the Way up the Great Wall

Last weekend, I visited a few sections of the Great Wall. I had an incredible walk on the wall and after 2 days of walk, I was really tired and yet satisfied that I had explored the wall up close and personal. I got to say I have never done so much walking in 2 days before. But what can I say? It is the Great Wall and one got to see it once in a lifetime. Here is how the whole walk went.

Juyongguan Great Wall

Honestly, I did not like it there at Badaling. It was kind of packed with crowds and very touristy, though the wall and other structures of the wall were very well restored and all. But I did enjoy walking Mutianyu and Juyongguan sections. As for Juyongguan section, it was the scenery of the snaking wall and the breathtaking countryside that really impressed me the most. My walk on the wall went very well and I also run into a few foreign travelers just like me. They asked me to help them to take a couple of group photos for them. Then we had a great conversation about the wall and other travel experiences we had to share with each other. It was really fun with someone to share the Great Wall experience. By the way, the great picture opportunities were all over the place. Everything was perfect that day, pleasant weather, sunny day yet not too hot, occasional clouds drifting above head, hardly anyone out there, so I got the wall kind of all to myself. All I had to do was just to take my time to take in everything that came my way on the wall.

Mutianyu Great Wall

The next day, I headed for Mutianyu for a walk and some sightseeing. It was also worthwhile and I loved it there too. The walk was great and I kept myself busy taking photos while walking on the wall. There were a few watch towers at Mutianyu that really grabbed my attention. I was sure I did not see something like that at other sections. The three towers kind of stood near each other and looked very impressive indeed. The views out there really took my breath away!

Overall, I really enjoyed every minute of my walking on the wall. It was just as incredible as it could be!

Amazing Hiking Experience

I have been in Beijing for a couple of days till last week. I did not have much time to myself as I was pretty much tied up with work. Lucky for me, I got 2 days off work, then I figured I might as well stretch some of my legs for a change. So I decided to go for a walk on the Great Wall. I contacted a tour guide that I knew on my last trip to Beijing.

Jinshanling Great Wall

In the morning, after my tour guide showed up, we jumped on a van and headed for Jinshanling to start our day trips. It took a few hours to get there as the section was located further away from the city proper. I planned 2 days for my hiking over there, so I had to stay for one night at the foothill. I was really glad I crashed for the night. It was definitely an essential rural experience for me. Anyway, enough with my accommodation. Back to my hiking on the wall. By the time we got to Jinshanling it was well into the afternoon. As usual, my tour guide took care of the entrance and we started to hike up the wall on foot, instead of grabbing a cable car up the wall. I got to say, the wall was really long and there were some parts which were very steep, making it hard to walk over. But it was worth it. By the time I got over the difficult parts of the wall, I was treated to quite a sight while standing on the highest point on the wall.

Truth to be told, I had never seen anything like that before. The views on the wall were just as breathtaking as they could be! The blue sky, the clouds, breeze and the snaking wall as well as the green-covered mountains - all made my hiking an unforgettable experience. All I got to do while hiking the wall was to take my time to enjoy myself and the incredible trek. It was really amazing to explore the wall at Jinshanling, especially those crumbling towers which totally took my breath away! By the time we had to get down the wall, I also witnessed the sunset on the wall. The sight vowed me, no doubt!

Overall, I really had a great time hiking the wall at Jinshanling!

Truly Amazing Great Wall, No Shopping Stops

I am a fan of Chinese Great Wall buildings. Last year, I explored Badaling Great Wall and Mutianyu Great Wall, very exciting and happy. I learnt a lot from these two buildings. Their experiences, features and elegance all left me a deep impression. At that time, because of the far distance of Jinshanling, I did not explore it. But, I heard it is a very typical building with wild features and original appearance. Under the suggestion of my friend, I booked this tour.

Jinshaning Great Wall

On the departure day, tour guide picked us from the hotel. At that time, we met each other and gave the warm greeting to each other. She is a girl who is very informative. On the whole journey to Jinshanling Great Wall, we chatted and communicated about Chinese history and the top highlights. To her surprised, we all housed many interests to Chinese history. About three hours driving, we arrived at Jinshanling Great Wall. With all the green plants reached the blossom, we become more exciting. We took out the food and drinks starting our Jinshanling Great Wall hiking journey. At the beginning, all the sceneries are not so clear in my eyes. What appeared in my vision are just the isolate mountains and ruined Great Wall buildings. Hiking journey is very fluent without spending too much labor. Even some sections are the soil ground with ruined bricks.

After hiking about twenty minutes, we are all shocked. We could clearly saw the mountains and sections far distance. The watchtowers are destroyed by the long history without roof. Only the wild grasses accompanied with it. We stood on the wall building, shouted to the far distance.  Typical tranquility sends out the echo clearly. I liked the environment very much, getting rid of the bustle life and busy downtown area. We communicated with each other the whole journey. Sitting on the ground, I always felt I was situating in Chinese ancient times. Touching the wall, cold and hard with cracks make me record the building process. We made a lot of friends on the way. Listening to them telling the stories of this building, from them, I got to know that Gubeikou Great Wall is nears around. Stepping on the top point, the whole sceneries formed a picture running into my camera.

I will store the exciting moment forever!
