5 Days Great Wall Hiking, Exciting!

Been in Beijing for quite a while and spent a great time in the city. Most memorable experience is no doubt my visit to the Great Wall. Visited a whole bunch of sections of the wall. Had so much fun and plenty of experiences of lifetime.

Mutianyu Great Wall
It was the Great Wall at Badaling, Juyongguan and Mutianyu sections that I was taken to see first. The Great Wall at those sections was very well restored, making the walk on the wall easier than those I visited the next few days. It was really amazing to see the Great Wall up-close and personal. I took my time to explore those structures on the wall, such as the watch towers, beacon towers, fortresses and barracks. Juyonguan was marvelous and very complete, with city wall well preserved and restored, giving me a chance to see it all and a good sense of what the Great Wall was all about. I did not enjoy my visit to Badaling, very crowded and too touristy. The wall at Mutianyu section is nothing special, but the scenery out there was even more dramatic and incredible. While hiking all the way up the wall, I also took my time to take in the fresh outdoor air, fascinating countryside landscapes. It was really fun and so exciting to walk up and down the stone path, snap great photos the minute I found something fascinating. At Mutianyu section, great photo opportunities were at every bend of the wall. The sight of the wall snaking upon the rugged mountains completely blew me away. Really had fun out there!

Jinshanling
For the last few days, I ventured further off the beaten path sections, including Jinshanling and Simatai sections. Climbing up the crumbling path over those sections was very challenging to me, but that was part of the fun and full of exciting experiences. Puffing up and down on the crumbing path was something I never did before and it was really a whole new experience! The sights I took in at those sections were so much better than those at Mutianyu and Juyongguan, I really loved it out there. How I wished that I could set up a tent out there and spend the night. The crumbling paths were overgrown with bush and shrub, making every step much of a challenge. The photos I got over there were even more amazing and rare and I hope they do justice to the sight out there.

Overall, best wall experience I ever had in Beijing!

My 3 Days Tour in Beijing, Full of Enjoyment

My trip to Beijing last week has been as amazing as it could be. I really had a great time over those days in the city and had fun as well. There seemed to be so many fun things to fill my agenda everyday in Beijing. Visited a whole bunch of historic sights with my guide Liu.

Forbidden City
First day, visited the Tiananmen Square. Then we headed to the Forbidden City by walking through the square. The palace is really huge and looked like a maze of palace, enclosed wall and courtyard. I felt dizzy while walking around the palace. I would have been lost without Liu by my side. She also filled me in with the history of the palace, which made my visit more fun and enjoyable. I also visited a few halls to see plenty treasure exhibits - all very marvelous. Really had a god time and an eye-opening trip to the palace. After lunch, we moved on to visit the Temple of Heaven. Also my favorite historic site that day. In the evening, Liu took me to watch the acrobatic show. The performance lasted for over an hour and was really spectacular. I really enjoyed the show and had a wonderful time in the theater.

Next day, we got outside the city proper and visited the Ming Tombs first. It was a massive tomb area where many Ming emperors and empresses were buried. To be honest, there is nothing special about the tombs down there. After lunch, we moved on to see the Great Wall at Badaling. I got to say, the wall is way better than the tomb. And I really enjoyed an incredible trek on the wall and did some sightseeing too. I totally enjoyed myself taking in the sight and walking the wall over there. It was fun and I just loved the fresh air and countryside with greenery all over the area.

Summer Palace
My last day was spent visiting narrow lanes in Beijing and the world famous Summer Palace. It was really fun to see the lovely lanes on a rickshaw ride. Definitely a whole new experience for me in Beijing. The Summer Palace is amazing too with spectacular sights all over the park. Had fun in the park too. Did not like the crowd though.

It was a great trip I did to Beijing and worth it all!

Cloudy Weather but Totally Happy Holiday

Last week, under the suggestion of my friends, we had a happy holiday in Beijing. Studying in Beijing for three years, this is my first time having such a terrific tour. We all liked the tour guide - Lily very much.

Mutianyu Great Wall
First, we climbed the Mutianyu Great Wall. If you say Badaling Great Wall is the most famous and best preserved, Mutianyu Great Wall is more charming in my opinion. It is very suitable for climbing. Upon arrived at the foot of the Great Wall, I was impressed by the tranquil environment nearside. Weather on the day is cloudy which make this environment more mysterious. Standing for a while, all my nerves are inspired by the luxuriant green trees. After doing everything preparation, we started to climb to the top point.

Perhaps because of the cloudy weather, the ground seemed to be watered by rain. Tourists are less and we just enjoyed the leisure hiking journey. After passing through the beginning steps, we come to the watchtower buildings. Standing here, the mysterious ancient building seized all our minds from modern days to the ancient times. The bricks, building designs, watchtowers and the gates all are matched to Chinese ancient war times. It is very easy to understand the windows built on the wall. I really did not know how the ancient labors carry the large scale brick on such high altitude under the poor condition. I imagined even though the weather is rainy, I like it very much, because it is natural without any decoration. Sitting on the ground, leaning on the wall, fully relaxed. We drank up the water and ate all the snacks we brought. There are many rubbish boxes in the wall in case of the littering anywhere. About one hour climbing, we arrived at the top. This time, we shouted, echoing sent and back. It seemed to be that only we three existed in the mountain but nothing. This kind of feeling is really unforgettable in my lifetime.

Summer Palace
After the Great Wall climbing, we came to the Summer Palace. The beauty and charming view have been mixed into the cloudy weather. It is just like a fairy summer resort housing breathtaking sceneries, delicate pavilions and large sale water areas. We stepped on the Tower of Buddhist Incense and have a pray. The design is really my favorite point. Ancient people are very smarter with each corner designed perfect.

Although it is cloudy, it has typical advantage to make everything more charming!
