Beautiful Scenery in Summer Palace

Since on business I didn't have much time for traveling, only a half day free time. And I really enjoyed a great Half Day Summer Palace Tour this afternoon.

The tour guide picked me up at my hotel at 1:00 pm and drove me to the destination. On the way, he told me a lot of information about the Summer Palace. It is the largest and best preserved imperial garden of the Qing Dynasty extant in Beijing, as well as a famous classical imperial garden. Based on Kunming Lake and Longevity Hill, modeled on the scenic West Lake in Hangzhou and the Southern Gardens, it is a large landscape park, which is also the well protected Royal Palace Regency.

Suzhou Street in Summer Palace

The Longevity Hill is the main attraction and the majority of the scenic spots are on that hill. From the foot of the "Yunhui Palace" arch, by the row of Cloud Gate, the Second Palace, Paiyun Palace, Dehui Temple, Buddhist Pavilion, until the top of the wisdom of the sea form a layer increasing axis. In the back of the mountain there stand the Tibetan Buddhist buildings and the colorful glass pagoda with green trees. Here the lake, mountains, islands, the embankment and the constructions, with a garden outside by "Borrow Scene" to form an embroidered landscape picture.

While entered the entrance, I was indulged in the charming garden landscape. The main lake-Kunming Lake almost account for three-quarters of park area. Have a view to the west from Kunming Lake, I saw the scenery outside seamless with the inner hills and lake and this is an outstanding example of Chinese garden practice of "Borrow Scene".

In my opinion, Suzhoujie is the place should not miss during the trip to Summer Palace. It is the market with traditional atmosphere and many of them are in low prices. I also bought a small one as the souvenirs.

I really enjoy a happy time this afternoon. And thank you very much to my professional English speaking tour guide.

Wangfujing Night Tour

The journey was more than wonderful in Beijing. During a few days Beijing tour, we learnt much more about the history and the traditional culture in Beijing. The Great Wall is in fact now no longer contiguous. Much of it is in disrepair. Five sections have been rebuilt and repaved for tourist. They are Badaling Great Wall, Juyongguan Great Wall, Mutianyu Great Wall, Jinshanling Great Wall and Simatai Great Wall. We went to the section nearest to Beijing at Badaling. To our surprise, it was so crowded even in weekdays there are a lot of locals. But that did not disturb us to enjoy the magnificent scenery while climbing the wall. We took a lot of beautiful pictures here and I will share them with my family after returning to my hometown.

Wangfujing Snack Street

The tour ended at 6:00 pm and we wanted to travel around the downtown. We had no idea where we were going - all we knew was that the night market was along Wangfujing Road and as the tour guide had told us, opened at 6:30 am. Little did we know that Wangfujing Road is a very busy shopping destination. It is huge and filled with bright signs (think Times Square) and high end and Chinese stores alike.

If you choose to go the night market, the more direct route is to subway to Wangfujing and then walk down the street of the same name turning left outside of the subway. You will see the entrance about half way down the street - it is a narrow ally with an arch over the entrance. There is also another night market with primarily food - if you continue past the first market, it will be at the very end of Wangfujing. We walked past it but didn't stop to look. Apparently it has an even more exotic variety of food. Eat at your own risk!

Tomorrow we will leave Beijing. We all felt satisfied with the trip ordered through Beijinglandscapes.com and I will recommend it to my friends. If time allows, I would like to travel to Beijing again to enjoy the natural scenery in the suburbs.

Half Day Forbidden City Tour - Great Feeling

It was easy to see why the airport in Beijing was rated one of the top in the world. It was enormous and beautiful, and customs was a breeze. While arriving at the airport, I saw our driver holding a big sign with my name. And on the way to our hotel, the driver act as our tour guide and told us a lot of the famous attractions in Beijing. Our hotel was ultra modern and trendy. We could have gone with a traditional Chinese hotel in a hutong, but figured we would have enough of traditional when winging accommodation during the rest of our trip.

Red Wall, Golden Glazed Tile

Since the first time to Beijing, first we choose a half day tour to Forbidden City, the symbol attraction in Beijing. But it is so large that after the half day walking, I felt my legs very tired. There are many gates you have to go through before you get to the actual entrance to the Palace are beautiful and the walls are flipping massive and very red. You're outside all the time for this particular attraction so we did 3 hours of looking around but regretably didn't climb the man made hill at the rear of the palace which had a temple and a view of the entire 'city'. I know it sounds weird but I really liked the steps leading up to the buildings, often there were two or three tiers and some had stone carved slabs of rock going the whole height of them and were covered with intricate carvings. The drain holes coming out from the steps were tens of enormous stone dragon heads and I could imagine if it rained there would be so many jets of water shooting out from their mouths. Although we just have a half day brief view, we are deeply moved by its large scale and the strong atmosphere of imperial power in ancient times.

On the way back, the tour guide told us that the bars along Houhai are very unique. That's wonderful. And at night we went there to experience the nightlife of Beijing. Different from my opinion, the bars here are not noisy instead they are quiet with the beautiful night scenery of Houhai. And we enjoy a comfortable nigh here.
