Impressive 5 Day Package Tour in Beijing

It was really a worthy tour to know about this mysterious city systemically. I have stayed in Shanghai, China for a long times, but no time to wander in Beijing which is the capital of China and explore its history and culture. Under the opportunity of long holiday, I made the decision to have an in-depth tour in this world famous city extremely. I booked the 5 days Beijing tour package online. No matter which day among the 5 days, it was impressive and workable. Fortunately, I got the well-service so that I have very satisfied Beijing tour except the little crowded.

Beijing Capital Airport

First day and last day were the most free for me, just the airport transfers. So I had enough free time to enjoy some heard attractive places and spots, excluded in the tour package. The most interesting was I tried some terrible snacks in Wangfujing Street, and I believed rare Chinese people would like to taste them. Also, I tasted some featured Beijing local snacks, they are very big different with our foods, a few of which were so hard to accept for me.

Badaling Great Wall

During the 5 days, I visited most of the imperial places in Beijing built in Ming and Qing Dynasties such as Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, etc. It is said that each performs its own functions. They had one same feature that they are all so large and magnificent, and they demonstrated the glory of the ancient Beijing and the luxurious life of Chinese emperors. Which let me shocked during the tour was the Badaling Great Wall. Although it was crowded, the Badaling Great Wall attracted large number of tourists to enjoy its magnificent scenery and grand project. It is said that the Great Wall at Badaling is the first opened section to public. In order to protect it, the government spent much money to maintain it every year. I always have a doubt about the Great Wall that how they built this fantastic project without any modern machinery in that time. May be it is the reason why it was listed into the World Wonders.

Ended this tour package, I found Mutianyu Great Wall is less crowded than Badaling portion, so if I have time, I would visited Mutianyu portion in the future time. In general, it was the satisfied experience as my first tour in China. Thanks you very much.

Today's highlight - Hutong, Lama Temple

The first highlight - Huong! These Huongs were a few hundred years. The Huong is like a little village in the middle of Beijing, where generations of families live in quite simple surroundings. Many of the Huongs have been bought out by the government for quite a good profit to the locals - in their place are now high rise apartments. This Huong was a few hundred years old and is now filled with the older generations as many young people prefer to live in the modern apartments - as many of the houses here don't have their own bathroom... instead you need to use the local toilet. We went on a Rickshaw ride through the streets of the Huong so that we could get a better look at how the locals lived. This was quite an interesting experience although many of the rickshaws had little or no brakes and there were some near misses.

The second highlight - Lama Temple! The temple is Beijing's most visited religious sites and one of the most important functioning Buddhist temples. Only about two dozen monks live in this complex today. We were dropped off at the entrance and the first thing you smell and see is the thick spicy smoke of incense. There are five main halls to visit. One of the halls houses a 85 foot Maitreya Buddha carved from a single sandalwood block. Unfortunately you are not allowed to take pictures inside any of the halls. The entire open courtyard is full of people burning three sticks of incense and bowing to the Buddhas. Our tour guide Emmett explained to us, even those that are not practicing Buddhist in China come here to ask for a wish and light the incense. If your wish is granted you are supposed to come back and thank the Buddha. She also said during one of the Chinese Holidays celebrated on January 1st the entire area is covered in smoke and the line to get into the Temple is very long. Outside of the temple are shops after shops selling incense. We wonder how they all stay in business.

After lunch in a restaurant (the food is chinese typical lunch, very delicious) move to next highlight - Panda zoo! Haha, they had olympic games pandas, asian games pandas, and baby pandas. They were all so lovely. Some were always keep eating, some were sleeping, some are playing together, very funny. Then we saw the one up in the tree and got some great photos.

We were so grateful for this funny tour, and the tour guide told us a lot about China. I have a very good tour. Thanks.

Temple of Heaven - must see in Beijing

Sadly, it was time to leave China. The Beijing airport is huge, clean, modern. Yeaterday I was picked up from the airport by the tour guide for my tour, today I will leave Beijing. Time is flying!

But we had a very good stay in Beijing. We went to see the Temple of heaven which is an old temple that the people of Beijing used to pray for good harvests. It is in a large walled park garden area just south of the center of Beijing. The main worshipping area consists of Three structures each is more impressive than the last with the second two having temple built on top.

We were witness to hundreds of Beijing locals, mostly in there 50's and 60's practicing all manor of exercise regimes from Tai Chi, Kung Fu, jogging, bat and ball, dancing - traditional Chinese (I presume) to ball room. I kid you not. I felt very unfit in there presence. The whole ambiance of the park and the people in it was fantastic and very calming and peaceful.

After lunch, we went to the summer palace, the tour driver was so skillful and we felt very comfortable on the car. The tour guide accompanied us all the way and explained the sightseeing to us. She told us history and legends about the summer palace. We all felt very pleased about this tour.

Today we went to the great wall, it was so splendid. We walked to the top and we did not use the cable car, as you know we are 53 years old. Hah, we are heros, our tour guide said!

I will come back to have another fresh look in the future!
