Experience Hutong Culture

I have been to Beijing three times and have already visited many world famous attractions such as Badaling Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven and the Summer Palace. And this time I'm on business here without enough time for traveling. I surf the internet and found the Half Day Hutong Tour is exciting. So I joined the group of the bus tour.

The tour started from Gulou square to enjoy the culture of Hutong with an old-fashioned pedicab. Drum Tower is the first destination for this tour. The English speaking tour guide told us the history about this symbol building in ancient time. Drum Tower was once built in the 18th year of Yongle reign, Ming Dynasty which was built on high brick platform of a temple-style building. It is one of the important historical buildings witnessed Chinese past century.

Then the pedicab drove me along Opium Street and Yiding Bridge. At the same time, I enjoyed the beautiful scenery of Shichahai. After lunch I visited the last destination- Prince Gong's Mansion. It is a private residence of Heshen, a wealthy minister in Qing Dynasty. There enjoys very comfortable environment.

During the Half Day Hutong Tour, I enjoyed the local residence, Shichahai Lake and local life in Beijing. Also I got a deep understanding about the traditional Hutong culture. Here is my feeling about the hutongs in Beijing: At first glance, Beijing hutongs are all gray walls and gray tiles, just look the same. In fact, Beijing Hutong is more than just the context of the city traffic. It is the place of the ordinary people living in Beijing, an important stage of development and evolution of the capital's history and culture. Hutong Beijing writes down the history of changes, the style of the times, and contains a rich cultural atmosphere, like a seat of the museum of folk customs.

Although time is limit and the tour is short, I still feel very rich and exciting. Also the tour guide scrupulous told us the history and the story of old alleys and the local custom in ancient time. All in all, it's a good thing my first half day group tour experience was wonderful.
