Xianyang Museum

Terracotta Warriors in Xiangyang MuseumAs one of the most famous museums in China, Xianyang Museum was opened to the public in 1962 on the site of a Confucian temple of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Xianyang was the capital of the Qin Dynasty (221B.C.-206B.C.) and the central location of the Han Dynasty (206B.C.-220). Therefore, Xianyang Museum mainly preserves the priceless cultural relics of Qin and Han dynasties. It is located on Zhongshan Street, in Xianyang City.


Exhibition Halls in Xianyang Museum

Occupying an exhibition area of 1,100 sq meters, Xianyang Museum houses 15,000 or more cultural relics, out of which 4,000 are on show. The museum features nine showrooms and a stele corridor.

Exhibition hall one, two and three in Xianyang Museum mainly focus on the historical cultural relics of the Qin Dynasty such as productive tools, weapons, metrology and some articles of daily life such as iron bell, hoe and shovel, all of which proved the great development in the metal industry.

The fourth exhibition hall displays some calligraphy and paintings of modern celebrities.

The most striking cultural relics in Xianyang Museum, the Han Dynasty Terra-cotta Soldiers, which are as grand as the Qin Terra-cotta Army, are well preserved in hall 5 and 6. The 3,000 terra-cotta soldiers were excavated in Xianyang, 1965. The figures are colorful and vivid, showing the impressive manner of the royal soldiers of Han Dynasty.

Exhibition hall 7, 8 and 9 in Xianyang Museum mainly show religious relics. A copper statues of Sitting Buddha made in the Ming Dynasty is the largest one of its kind. The last two halls are full of color drawing terracotta warriors and horses, which supply us today many important practical materials on researching the military affairs, sculpture art, and fineries at that time. Besides, the newly opened Stele Corridor exhibits hundreds of ancient steles covered by marvelous calligraphy and carvings.
